UK – Q&A with Ryan Evans, Global Engineering Manager
How did your career start at OPENLANE UK?
My career with OPENLANE UK started in September 2018, I joined the team as a Senior Developer contributing to the OEM solutions delivered out of the UK.
Tell us about your career progression at OPENLANE UK.
Shortly after joining I became the Scrum Master for that UK delivery team, where we contributed to several major projects. The biggest was migrating our on-premise solution into a cloud solution. During this period, I got the opportunity to work with all different kinds of people as part of the international team. An opportunity then arose to become the Global Engineering Manager for the international team, where I now have the opportunity to contribute, influence and lead engineering practices for our marketplace platform.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your current role?
Being able to connect different people together to accomplish the same goal is what I find most rewarding; no two people on the international team have the same background and getting to know them is amazing. I’m honoured to be in a position where I can coach and mentor them.
What advice would you give to someone starting their career at OPENLANE UK?
My advice to anyone starting at OPENLANE UK is, firstly, to know that asking for help is not a weakness. There is a huge team around you that is more than willing to help. Secondly, accept that you’re going to make mistakes — so fail fast and fail small.
